Nadi, Fiji

Fiji was such a fantastic place to visit after spending six months in Australia. It was great to experience a different culture, and slow down to Fiji time.

When arriving at our hostel in Nadi, which is a city on the west coast of Viti Levu, the sun was setting on the horizon and we watched it go down whilst trying the local beer.

Bamboo Travellers, our hostel was a great base to come back to at night but to experience real Fiji we book a day boat cruise to the mamanucaus islands where we stopped for the afternoon at Mondriki Island where the Tom Hanks classic Castaway was filmed. Beautiful is an understatement.

We also booked a trip around the mainland to experience the local hot springs and mud pools, the garden of the sleeping giant, the oldest traditional Fijian village in the mainland and Nadis’s breathtaking Hindu temple.

The weather was superb every day and on our final day we hired a car and travelled the south coast of Viti Levu stopping wherever looked interesting along the way. It was a real high way to end the week in island paradise and the people I met along the way and the scenery I saw will be in my memory for a long time.
